Flowers and Fortissimos: Spring Music FSAs
This term, a wide variety of art FSAs ranges from classical piano to an actual band!
Matthew Higgins Iati ’17 will be working with Ms. Lanier on a “Piano Work” FSA this spring. His practices will consist of a plethora of pieces—including the Schubert Impromptu and a few Mozart Sonatas. When asked, he says that he is very excited for this year’s final exhibition because of the increase in music FSAs since this time last year. Although he is uncertain about what exactly he will be doing, Matthew specified that his exhibition will definitely be a collaborative effort. Matthew, possessing both musical talent and, perhaps, a flair for inspirational lines, concluded his interview with the words: “I am nothing more than a horseradish fighting for its place in this world.”
Lilias Kim ‘18 is going to be working on classical music, specifically from the German art genre, with Ms. Lanier this term. She will be expanding her past knowledge on singing technique and working with teachers on various pieces, but she will also learn German translation and diction in order to practice her songs. Lilias plans to work with fellow musician Matthew Higgins Iati ‘17 again to prepare for a recital on June 2, along with practicing with the Jazz FSA Combo and Ivana Primero ‘17. She is very excited to work on her FSA and prepare for her performances this spring. No doubt, her performance will be spectacular. She says, “Come watch our recital! It’s not long, but short and sweet.”
Ivana Primero ‘17 is working on a violin and piano recording FSA. She hopes to add to her repertoire and increase her performance level when possible. She also hopes to get some recordings done soon, and will be having a recital at the end of the term.
Abby Power ‘17 and Langa Chinyoka ‘17 are doing a songwriting FSA together. They will be writing and recording music together. They may have a concert at the end of the term.
Steven Anton, Drew Bassilakis, Zahin Das, and Garvel Cassamajor make up the Music Band FSA. These talented musicians all play in Jazz Band, and for this FSA, they are playing jazz and rock music. Although the details are not yet determined, they’ll have a concert at the end of the term.
