Each year during March break, teams take trips in preparation for the spring season. These trips provide opportunity for athletes to improve their game as well as develop strong team camaraderie. This year, Baseball, Boys’ Lacrosse, and Girls’ Lacrosse will all travel to warm destinations over the break.

Boys’ Varsity Baseball will be heading down to Dodgertown in Vero Beach, Florida, a new destination for the team. Upon the evening of arrival, the boys will hold their first practice to kick off their season. The team will be practicing twice a day, and play four Varsity and two JV games over the course of the trip. Everyone will dress for the Varsity games, while a select group will play in the JV games as the rest of the team practices. When they are not practicing, the boys will be hanging out in the Dodgertown clubhouse or taking team outings to minor league games or laser tag. Cam Schmitt ‘18 raves about his first trip with the team last year, saying, “It was really nice to get out of the cold New England weather and play baseball in 75 degree heat,” and looks forward to down time at the beach with the boys.

After last year’s successful season, Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse will be heading back down to Orlando for preseason. The team will be staying in Disney World’s Pop Century Resort, a five minute drive from their fields in the ESPN World Wide of Sports complex. The team will be practicing twice a day with the occasional night game against other prep schools. Preseason is a great time for the team to bond and get excited for the season. When the team is not playing, the girls will be relaxing by the Hippie Dippy pool, enjoying snacks provided by Disney’s state-of-the-art meal plan wristbands, and exploring Epcot. Co-captain Marcella Flibotte ‘17 is excited to see what decade the team will be staying in this year, and cannot wait to finally break out “the spoon” with her fellow Lady Zeebs.

Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse will be returning to beautiful Casa Grande, Arizona for spring training with Trilogy Lacrosse. Coach Low raves about his work with Trilogy, saying, “I’ve been coming down to spring break training for lacrosse since 1990 with teams and this has been an unbelievable experience.” In past years, there have been blue skies every day, and the boys have enjoyed the  phenomenal facilities. The team will be facing four packed days, beginning with an early wake-up for a team workout and two other practices. At night, the team will be playing scrimmages against other New England prep schools or local high school teams. Co-captain Tyler Forbes ‘18 says, “The games are good often times to give some of the younger, less-experienced kids a chance to improve their game .” During the week, the boys are given an off day to relax and go see a baseball spring training game as a team. The Arizona trip always gives the team good momentum going into the season, getting the chance to play without having to worry about the hassle of classes.
